05 May World Naked Gardening Day

It was a cool day in Sydney for the 10th annual World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) and thus one not conducive to me personally getting my gear off and into the garden to take part!

For those not familiar with the event, the first Saturday of May is WNGD where (according to their website) people are encouraged “to tend their portion of the world’s garden unclothed as nature intended”.

Apparently gardening is only second to swimming in the long list of things people would consider to do in the buff! (These people have obliviously never tended to thorny roses or berries!)

Whilst I begrudgingly participate in a near-naked bin dash’  nearly every week, I kindly didn’t subject my neighbours to the further punishment of this event aimed at improving “both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment”.

I have, however seen many others post online about having taken part, especially those who live in the Northern Hemisphere where it would appear they relish any excuse to get their gear off once the sun comes out!

I think for this event to ever gain traction in Australia a date change is well in order to take into account the cooler weather that comes to (frost) bite us that time of year in the Southern Hemisphere. So the question is when would (birthday) suit you best?

Note: For those looking for more info (remembering you can’t un-see the images!) visit the World Naked Gardening Day site HERE
