03 Aug Royal Queensland Show Rose
The Royal Queensland Show (Affectionately know as Ekka) kicks off this Friday in Brisbane, running 10 days from 5-14 August
This year they have implemented a brand-new precinct, with The Old Museum coming home to Ekka after 119 years to form the new Flower & Garden Exhibition, of which I’ll be proudly hosting.
The Old Museum already features several heritage rose beds which are being restored just in time for this years Ekka.
To help commemorate the return of The Old Museum, the RNA are releasing a new rose called ‘Royal Queensland Show’, with a ceremonial planting set for the first day of the show.
The rose is an apricot floribunda, with blooms fading from orange to pink, eventually fading to a greenish white giving the bush a multi-coloured effect. It is also said to have good disease resistance and vigour.
A small number of roses will be available for sale at the show, with a waiting list for all those not able to secure one at the show. Royalties from each rose will help support heritage facilities at Ekka.
