06 Nov REVIEW: Amgrow Organix Weed Blitz 1L ready to use

Those of you pining  for a registered organic weed control spray for the home market are in luck with this latest offering from the people at Amgrow.

Product

Amgrow Organix Weed Blitz 1L ready to use – $14.95.

Description

The active ingredient of this herbicide is pine oil, extracted from both Australian and New Zealand pine. It works by stripping the coating from leaves, stems and even seeds to which it is applied,  causing the collapse of the cells and thus the plant itself. It is wholly plant-derived and certified organic. If you understand it’s action you can now understand why it would not be the best solution to bulbous or woody perennial weeds which would burn-off then most-likely recover. It does, however, work an absolute treat in killing juvenile perennial as well as most annual weeds.

The Verdict

The first thing I noticed when testing this product was the smell. It smells great, not something generally associated with garden sprays. I found it worked extremely effectively at desiccating weeds quickly even on overcast, cooler days. The effect can be noticed almost instantaneously with weeds often curling over within the hour.

My only negative would be that it is currently only available in a ready to use pack does make it a bit on the expensive side for regular use so I hope a concentrate pack is in the works.

I’ve been looking everywhere for this product this week – and no luck! None of the major stockists of gardening gear near me sell it (or have heard of it). Any hints on where I can find Weed Blitz?

Hi Ally. Here is the Amgrow customer service phone number 1800 AMGROW (1800 264 769). They should be able to notify you of your closest stockist. Good luck!

Thankyou Matthew, I tried ringing earlier today and couldn’t get through. It’s getting close to Christmas so I suppose they could either be flat out, or conversley winding down for the holidays. Shall try again tomorrow as I really want to try this product.
Thanks and love the site 😀

The only thing this product blitzed was my wallet. It does turn the leaves on the top of the weeds brown but does not kill the base or the roots. I used the product during a dry, sunny week on various weeds and grass and found it uniformly ineffective at killing any of them. A complete waste of money, back to roundup for me.

Hi Cathy. True, this would not be a good choice for killing-off grasses etc. It is mainly useful for annual soft weeds or juvenile non-bulbous perennial weeds, not hardy perennial weeds that will likely scorch then regrow.

I purchased Amgrow, Organix pine oil based weed killer as I have pets and didn’t want to use poisons. I found it fantastic, couldn’t believe how good it was as it worked almost straight away within an hour or so. I will be using it all the time as I have lots of weeds in my pavers, which are very hard to remove without it. Thank you Amgrow and Organix. A. Berne. Sydney.
