22 Jan Not such a shiitake idea…

Scientists form Mexico’s Metropolitan Autonomous University have been looking into the use of mushrooms to degrade the 5oo tonnes of diapers that end up in Mexican landfill daily.

Don’t worry, only urine soaked nappies are used in the process and the byproducts are not for human consumption. The mushrooms themselves can be used as cattle feed and the rest either composted or sent for further recycling.
